Three cooling towers of the decommissioned Didcot A Power Station, the older of the two installations here, are due to be blown up at some time next month (June 2014). The 3 towers on the right are also part of Didcot A, to be removed at a later date.

Didcot A was a dual-fired power station. Didcot B is an efficient, modern, gas-burning power station, using combined cycle gas turbines - CCGT - to produce electricity enough to power about a million households, but is currently only due to continue operating until 2023, when it will be decommissioned unless upgraded to meet more stringent European emissions standards on sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides.
