Fields above Sutton Poyntz up on to the Ridgeway
From the Ridgeway just west of White Horse Hill a well trodden footpath drops down into Sutton Poyntz. The first buildings are the Waterworks which take water from the Spring Bottom, to the right of the picture, to supply Weymouth and Portland. The spring feeds the River Jordan which runs through Sutton Poyntz and the eastern part of Preston to flow into the sea at Bowleaze Cove. In the right distance is Weymouth with its golden sands and in the far distance Portland connected to the mainland by Chesil shingle bank. Portland harbour enclosed by breakwaters is clearly visible.
