Inlet off the South Forty Foot Drain
Inlet off the South Forty Foot Drain
Each of the villages between Bourne and Heckington, a distance of some 15 miles, almost without exception has a road leading out onto the fen named after its village and terminating at the South Forty Foot Drain. The next village to the south of Rippingale which is Dunsby has Dunsby Drove terminating at South Forty Foot Drain, whereas the next village to the north which is Dowsby has one of the few drove roads which cross it.

Long Drove which runs out on to Rippingale Fen terminates at South Forty Foot Drain where a lonely pumping station exists to lift the water from the dykes on to South Forty Foot Drain. This view from just beyond the pumping station shows where the water has been lifted into the South Forty Foot Drain which is just ahead through the gap in the vegetation.
