Englishman's Burn
Englishman's Burn
I'm not sure why Englishman's Burn is so called. Local tradition says that a battle was fought here between the Scots and the English, the date being variously given as 1150, 1154 or 1312, and that the name may relate to that.
Until about 20 years ago the burn provided the water supply for Creetown (also see Link ) but following persistent contamination with Cryptosporidium (a protozoal parasite which causes gastroenteritis) which proved impossible to eradicate, Creetown was eventually connected to the mains water supply.
