Blockhouse and Moorings on the River Medway at Lower Upnor
Blockhouse and Moorings on the River Medway at Lower Upnor
Taken from the outside of the road corner, the photo shows moorings on the River Medway at low tide, and on the left a WW2 'pillbox' hastily erected in 1940 as part of the GHQ line, although at that time presumably the brick wall that prevents pedestrians from falling into the river would have been absent. The posts in the right foreground prevent vehicular traffic accessing the Arethusa Venture Centre car park at that point, while permitting pedestrians to pass, including those on the Saxon Shore Way which crosses the car park.
