SE0116 : An early stage of stream formation

taken 10 years ago, near to Booth Wood, Calderdale, England

An early stage of stream formation
An early stage of stream formation
The peat has been fractured and ground water can drain into the crevices. During heavy rain the peat will erode, and eventually a stream channel, and later a small clough (valley) will form. The landscape is forever changing and evolving, but on a long timescale.
