NS5380 : Duntreath Standing Stones

taken 12 years ago, near to Netherton, Stirling, Scotland

Duntreath Standing Stones
Duntreath Standing Stones
I had visited the site before, but the grass had then been long, obscuring the stones; I was therefore glad of an opportunity to return and obtain some clearer views. See NS5380 : Duntreath Standing Stones for more information about these stones, and click on the end-note title for related pictures.

The second-from-right stone has another one behind it, lying flat, and visible here in shadow: see NS5380 : Duntreath Standing Stones, a view of the stone row from the other side.

The wooded hill that is prominent in the background is Dumgoyach. A distant green skyline hill, directly behind the leftmost stone, is NS5181 : Quinlochmore, whose summit is also of some archaeological interest: NS5181 : Summit of Quinlochmore.
Duntreath Standing Stones

This line of stones was probably set up in the Neolithic period, but it is located on a site which had perhaps been significant from a much earlier date. See LinkExternal link (at Canmore) for further details. As a scheduled monument, the site is legally protected.
