The stones could equally well be described as Duntreath Stone Row: see Link for pictures of them.

They occupy high ground, and their location provides fine views of the wooded hill Dumgoyach to the north-west and the more distant NS5181 : Quinlochmore to the WNW (see NS5380 : Duntreath Standing Stones), and of the Campsie Hills to the north-east (as shown in the present picture). From here, the appearance of those higher hills is accentuated by the lower ground between them and the standing stones.

For the edge of the Campsie Hills, which appear in the present picture, the lower intervening ground is Strath Blane, the broad valley through which the Blane Water flows. NS5381 : Duntreath Castle and its grounds can be seen near the centre of the picture. On the skyline, the rocky hill of Dumgoyne is at the far left, and the less conspicuous Dumfoyn is beside it, a little left of centre. Both peaks are in NS5482. The edge of the plateau on the right shows banding that indicates successive lava outflows.
Duntreath Standing Stones
This line of stones was probably set up in the Neolithic period, but it is located on a site which had perhaps been significant from a much earlier date. See LinkExternal link (at Canmore) for further details. As a scheduled monument, the site is legally protected.
