SP9314 : Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus) at College Lake

Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus) at College Lake
The lapwing (Vanellus vanellus) is a resident British bird with two alternative names, the Green Plover or the Peewit, the latter from its call. It also has other local names including "Hornpie" and also "Flopwing" from its lazy-winged flight.
Sadly, this very attractive bird which I remember seeing by the hundreds if not thousands in fields in the winter has suffered a rapid decline in the UK (moderate decline in England) in the last thirty years - see
