Battery at Peak Point overlooking Gribbin Head, Polruan, Cornwall
The base of the Polruan Gun Battery is just beyond the dark wall in the foreground. It stands in a position protecting the entrance to Fowey Harbour from the eastern side, and may date from as early as the 17th century.

The harbour at Fowey has been of strategic military importance through much of its history, and defensive forces were stationed there in the Napoleonic Wars and during World War II. More information can be found at this LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link )
