HSS Stena Explorer at Holyhead, Holy Island
This large ferry, which is actually a catamaran, was launched by Stena Line in 1996. It can take up to 360 cars and 1500 passengers. It is used on Stena Line's service from Holyhead to Dun Laoghaire, near Dublin. Because of the increasing cost of fuel, it is usually only used in the peak periods of around Easter to early September and at Christmas. The current timetable schedules the vessel to complete the crossing in two hours twenty minutes, although it is capable of making the journey in around two hours, but this uses more fuel.
