NY1750 : The east window at St. Mary's, Abbey Town
taken 12 years ago, near to Abbeytown, Cumbria, England

The east window at St. Mary's, Abbey Town
Unlike the west front which still looks like the medieval abbey, the east end has been mucked about with over the centuries. On the left is part of a column for another arch which was lost when the church was shorten after a fire in 1604. The reconstructed wall and east window are Jacobean. The walls of the east end of the old abbey church remained standing until they were demolished in 1727. So all of these gravestones date from after the 1730's.
