Approaching the site of the former Soham station, 1991
View northward, towards Ely: ex-GER Ely - Newmarket line. Although severely damaged in the disaster of 2/6/1944 when a train of bombs blew up - see the attached grid square discussion and TL5873 : Single track line at Soham - the station was not closed until 13/9/1965 (goods 12/9/1966). The line has remained open, although singled since 1991, and there is a campaign hoping to reopen Soham station.
