Oakenshaw Wildlife Reserve
Oakenshaw Wildlife Reserve
This is the largest of the three lakes on the old opencast coal mining site which was operated by the Banks Mining Group. In 1996, the site was restored by Banks and opened by Tony Blair MP as a wildlife reserve, for which it received an Environmental award from County Durham. LinkExternal link
