The most boring section of the National Cycle Network
The most boring section of the National Cycle Network
For 100 km from near Carlisle up to Lesmahagow, National Cycle Network route 74 comprises cycle lanes painted either side of the old A74. Level and easy cycling, maybe, but how incredibly boring compared with the rest of the network where visual attractiveness has been one of the criteria for selection. And not even particularly safe for cyclists - during weekdays timber lorries hurtle along this road which has been reclassified as the B7076.
