A shot taken a few minutes after TQ1450 : Bee orchids at Ranmore (1) and in brighter light.

Most years I manage a visit or two to this hillside in early summer, but it has been many years since I last saw this species here. Ophrys apifera is quite easily overlooked, but I suspect that it lies dormant for years at a time. On this occasion I noticed bee orchids at a number of spots on the hillside - by far the best showing I have seen in 30 years, so I'm wondering whether the mild winter may have helped. 12th June is a fairly early date for this species.
