Finding these archways hidden away in the woods came as a complete surprise. I've said a few words about the circumstances in the first item in this sequence, which also explains a little of their history: TQ0950 : Archway, Briary Hill, Dick Focks Common

The arch itself is lined with brick, while the retaining walls of the approach are faced with flint cobbles, laid in neat courses. The profile of the arch is unusual - an elongated horse-shoe shape.
