SX9583 : Powderham sawmill

taken 11 years ago, near to Kenton, Devon, England

Powderham sawmill
Powderham sawmill
One of a group of buildings on the western edge of the estate, collectively shown on the OS map as "mills". They are close to but not actually on the River Kenn so it is doubtful whether these were watermills. This one however is a sawmill.
Powderham Castle and estate :: SX9683

The castle is privately owned (i.e. nor English Heritage or National Trust) and is still the seat of the Courtenays, Earls of Devon. Medieval in origin, heavily altered in the 18th & 19th centuries. Grade 1 listed, a full description can be found at LinkExternal link . It is open to the public and admission includes access to the Belvedere, but not to Powderham Park (see separate shared description), the deer park around the castle.
