Castles of Leinster: Garry, Offaly (1)
The north wall of this tower just off the R439 SE of Banagher, still stands four storeys high with corbels for a former bartizan at the NE corner. It was thought to have been built by Felim Maoil MacCoghlan in 1450. In the C17 further fortifications were added to the south of the tower, and included along the adjoining bawn wall, a north-facing gateway with a machicolation over the arch.
