Large quartz outcrop near Sgurr nan Clachan Geala
About 200m south of the summit of Sgurr nan Clachan Geala is the largest outcrop of pure white quartz rock that I know of in the whole of Scotland. Presumably this is the feature after which the nearby hill was named. Some of the larger pieces weigh more than half a tonne based on their size; several are more than a metre in length. The feature is easily visible from Carn Eige, over 8 kilometres away.
