W1233 : Pillar box

taken 10 years ago, near to Skibbereen, Co Cork, Ireland

Pillar box
Pillar box
Pillar box in North Street. Cast by Cochrane, Grove and Co. of Dudley in the English Black Country. (Other pillar boxes by this company: LinkExternal link ) Bears the British royal crest and the VR (Victoria Regina) monogram. Now made Irish by the simple expedient of green paint.

Sobering to think that this may have been there when the Famine, noted in the song "Skibbereen" LinkExternal link was raging.
