WW1 Candlelit Vigil, Bangor
A candlelit vigil in Ward Park, Bangr, to mark the anniversary of the day that Britain and Ireland entered World War One. The vigil took place from 10:45pm to 11pm which was the exact moment 100 years ago that Britain declared war. This was also part of a nationwide 'lights out' event from 10-11pm to commemorate the 17 million soldiers and civilians who died in the conflict.
This event was attended by a large number of people. Only the mayor spoke, briefly, a lone piper played a few tunes and, at 11pm when all the lights went out, the last post was sounded.
