The Service Chapels are for remembering soldiers (St George's Chapel), sailors (St Andrew's Chapel) and Airmen (St Michael's Chapel who have died in wars across the globe and over the centuries.

After the First World War, a need was expressed for an All Services Chapel in the Cathedral was expressed and the three chapels in the North Transept were designated for this purpose, becoming a combined chapel with separate Service altars.
