SK9771 : The Seamen's Chapel (Dedicated to St Andrew)
taken 12 years ago, near to Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England

The Seamen's Chapel (Dedicated to St Andrew)
St Andrew's Chapel was established in 1295. It was restored and re-dedicated in 1923. The figure of St Andrew with his net on the chapel wall above the altar, together with the altar frontal decoration of fish and a lantern, is to emphasise that the majority of seafarers who set out from Lincolnshire ports were fishermen.

Lincoln Cathedral Service Chapels
The Service Chapels are for remembering soldiers (St George's Chapel), sailors (St Andrew's Chapel) and Airmen (St Michael's Chapel who have died in wars across the globe and over the centuries.
After the First World War, a need was expressed for an All Services Chapel in the Cathedral was expressed and the three chapels in the North Transept were designated for this purpose, becoming a combined chapel with separate Service altars.
