Arable field between the river and the railway
A crop of wheat is awaiting harvest in an arable field which is bounded on 2 sides by a meander of the River Aln and on a third by the embankment and viaduct which carries the East Coast Mainline railway across the river Valley. The viaduct has 18 arches, was designed by Robert Stephenson, built in 1849 and is now grade II listed. The page on the English Heritage website detailing the listing can be seen here: Link
