Lords and Ladies, Tring Park
No, not nobility visiting the park, but the berries of the Wild Arum or Cuckoo Pint (Arum maculatum). The berries are poisonous, but rarely fatal as they immediately burn the mouth so few people ingest enough to do themselves much damage, but they may make the thoat inflamed resulting in difficulty breathing. Surprisingly this plant is one of the most common causes of accidental plant poisoning based on attendance at hospital A & E departments, apparently.
Tring Park :: SP9210

Tring Park is the former grounds of The Mansion in Tring, which has had several owners including Sir William Gore, Lord Mayor of London; Sir Drummond Smith, a London banker and from 1823 William Kay, a Manchester textile magnate. In 1872 Lionel de Rothschild, who had been leasing it since 1838, bought it as a wedding present for his son, Nathaniel who later founded the famous Zoological Museum that still survives next door to the mansion and is now part of the Natural History Museum.
The park was laid out in the style of Capability Brown during Drummond Smith's tenancy. The park is now owned by Dacorum Borough Council and has been maintained by the Woodland Trust since 1993 LinkExternal link and LinkExternal link
