Callaghan Square
Callaghan Square
The modern public square is part of the major investments and redevelopment of the Cardiff Bay area and beyond. Previously the old terraces and businesses were cleared and the intention was to perhaps build the new Welsh Assembly building here; however, that decision was made elsewhere and the square (named Bute Square) left an open space. But on 1st June 2002, the square was renamed after former Prime Minister and Cardiff South and Penarth MP, James Callaghan.
