taken 10 years ago, near to Jamestown, West Dunbartonshire, Scotland

Gall on bracken
Gall on bracken
The tip of one of the frond's pinnules is curled up. The gall, which is common, is caused by the maggot of a fly, Chirosia grossicauda. This example is beside a path, just a short distance uphill of a NS4180 : Gate and stile.
