Lake in the park-Brampton Bryan, Herefordshire
Passing through Brampton Bryan Park, you will come upon this stretch of water. No name on the OS map - but when does a pond become a lake and vice versa? Lying south-west of Brampton Bryan village, Brampton Bryan Park is in the ownership of the Harley family who gave their name to Harley Street in London and who have held this land since 1309. The Park, declared an SSSI, is first mentioned in 1577 and the tree planting which has given us so many fine specimens dates from the 17th century. The highest point is Pedwardine Hill, at over 1000 feet above sea level. Coxall Knoll to the north, with its hill fort SO3673, is said to be the site of the last stand of Caractacus against the Romans. Time taken 6.00 pm BST (British Summer Time).
