The North Pole at Crovie
The North Pole at Crovie
This metal post being used as a washing line support is at the north end of the single row of houses at the coastal village of Crovie. After I took this photograph I met an interesting elderly man who was brought up in house number 63. He was a retired fisherman who was visiting his old village and he told me that “ ye cannae gaun hame until ye walk roond the pole”. I watched him go along to the pole and sure enough he held on to it as he walked around the pole and came back. He said it was erected after a storm in 1953. I never checked out the other side of the pole but this photo from 2002 shows it marked as the South Pole NJ8065 : The South Pole, Crovie.
