TF2010 : Sugar beet crop at the end of Stowgate

Sugar beet crop at the end of Stowgate
This crop, to the east of Deeping St James will soon be lifted and probably stored at the end of the public highway just here, Link
Modern beet harvesters lift several rows in a single pass and travel at around 10 m.p.h. Only very large farming operations have their own beet harvesting machines these days and much of the work is done by specialist contractors who will use the machines on a daily basis to make them economically viable. Typical machines working in the Cambridgeshire Fens can be seen here Link and here Link
