River Manifold from Darfar Bridge
River Manifold from Darfar Bridge
The Manifold dries up in summer just above this point. No it doesn't, it drains away into a number of sink holes, to emerge about 5 miles downstream in the grounds of Ilam Park, The limestone rocks are riddled with caves and underground streams.

The bridge from which this picture was taken is a road bridge. The one in the picture was a railway bridge on the narrow gauge Manifold Railway that operated from about 1903-1933. Most of the trackbed is a cycle way. This part is a parallel road.
