Ringstead Bay, Dorset
The background shows the impressive unconformity here. The upper layer is Cretaceous Chalk topped by a thin light brown layer of angular flint gravel (from the Pleistocene period). Under that at the bottom is the grey of the Kimmeridge clay, partly covered by grass, which is actually sloping up from left to right, and the deep dark line sloping down from left to right defines the top of this layer. Between these two layers are Gault topped by a layer of Greensand though those layers are hard to make out from a distance.
