Wetley Moor

Wetley Moor is an open access area of common land and lowland heathland, managed by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council. There are a number of waymarked footpaths and horse riding trails on the moor. Part of the moor is a designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its heathland character. There is a long history of coal mining here, and during the depression from 1921 to 1926, many small bell pits were dug to win coal. Additionally, stone for building was quarried on the moor from 1689 until the second world war.
