taken 10 years ago, near to Great Stonar, Kent, England

Earthworks at Richborough Fort
Earthworks at Richborough Fort
The 3rd century defensive ditches in Richborough Fort. These ditches were fairly shortlived and were filled in after some forty years. This was later replaced by the masonry of the Saxon shoreline fort. Richborough Fort is a significant site in Roman Britain; it was the first place the Roman's landed and was the starting point for the conquest of Britain.
