Minster Lovell - Northern Range of Old Hall
Minster Lovell - Northern Range of Old Hall
A view roughly eastwards at the ruins of the North Range of the Old Hall (a former Manor House) at Minster Lovell. The high wall in the centre is the western wall of the Great Hall which would have been the eastern wall of the Solar at first floor level. To the left of these are the remains of the Chapel and the anteroom connecting this to the rest of the complex. The view is taken from the remains of the "northwest building".
Minster Lovell Hall
The ruins of the mid C15th Minster Lovell Hall lie between the church of St Kenelm LinkExternal link and the River Windrush in a very attractive and picturesque site. The hall fell into a ruinous condition in the mid C18th, though an engraving of 1729 LinkExternal link suggests it was still in good condition as late as this.
The manor and hall were owned by a number of different people since its construction in 1431/32 for William 7th Lord Lovell. It is now in the care of English Heritage (see LinkExternal link )
A plan of the ruins can be seen here LinkExternal link
It is EH Grade I listed LinkExternal link
and the site is a listed Ancient Monument LinkExternal link
