St Olave
St Olave
One of Exeter's oldest churches, it was founded in 1035 and stands at a slight angle to the modern road. It had a varied past, being closed by Cromwell and converted to a school, reopened during the Huguenot exodus as a church, then later returning as a schoolhouse. As war broke out it also saw use as a military chapel.

Beside the figure of Christ crucified (a WWI memorial) is a rather weathered benchmark - see SX9192 : St Olave's benchmark.
