TQ8582 : On board the paddle-steamer Waverley in mid-river

taken 5 years ago, 3 km from Westcliff-on-Sea, Southend-on-Sea, Great Britain

On board the paddle-steamer Waverley in mid-river
On board the paddle-steamer Waverley in mid-river
In wind and showers.

Position is necessarily approximate (no GPS) but the photo was taken about seven minutes after leaving Southend pier, and a couple of minutes before we passed close to TQ8582 : The Leigh Deposit marker-buoy

Waverley was built to replace a ship of the same name lost in the Dunkirk evacuations of 1940. I strongly suspect that the present Waverley 'modeled' for the artist who painted a pub sign commemorating those events: TQ1671 : Pub sign: 'The Tide End Cottage', Teddington Lock
