Folkestone, Kent, The Leas, The Step-Short Centenary Memorial Arch.
The Memorial Arch commemorates the Centenary of the outbreak of the First World War and was dedicated on August 4th, 2014. 12 plaques commemorate the men and women passing through Folkestone during the first World War.
This plaque reads:
"Belgian refugees fleeing from invasion
began to arrive in Folkestone from
late August 1914.

Over 100,000 come ashore; many are
terror-stricken and destitute.
Medical assistance and interpreters are
provided, and local people respond
immideately to appeals for food, clothing
and shelter."
