Shodfriar’s Hall on the corner of Shodfriar's Lane, was described by Pevsner as "the ghost of a timber framed building" owing to the fact that it was heavily reconstructed, and greatly altered, by J. Oldrid Scott (son of Sir Gilbert Scott) in 1874. However, it remains an impressive building, presumably with views of The Haven (river) from its upper jettied storeys. A series of images of it over the centuries can be seen on Billy Thorn's blog at LinkExternal link The Shod Friars (better known perhaps as Dominican or Black friars) founded a friary in this area in 1222.
