Polesden Lacey
The Edwardian mansion near Effingham owned by the noted society hostess Mrs. Margaret Greville who entertained royalty and the cream of early 20th century society in lavish style. The original house dates to the 14th century and has been remodelled may times during its history. The house you see today dates from 1824 with additions and internal remodelling in 1906.
There is a large estate of 1400 acres including walled gardens and countryside walks. The National Trust was bequeathed the house on Mrs Greville's death in 1946.
