SK1789 : Concrete channel, Lockerbrook South Plantation

taken 10 years ago, near to Fairholmes [other Features], Derbyshire, Great Britain

Concrete channel, Lockerbrook South Plantation
Concrete channel, Lockerbrook South Plantation
This channel carries water diverted from the River Ashop around two miles away in a neighbouring valley. The water is carried by channel, pipe and tunnel and then discharged into Derwent Reservoir just above its dam; thus it is ultimately used to supply drinking water to the East Midlands. SK1489 : Dam on River Ashop beside the A57 Snake Road, Derbyshire shows the point on the River Ashop where the diversion begins, while SK1489 : Water supply channel in Woodlands Valley shows the same diversion channel further upstream.
