Piper's Chair above Shaftoe Crags
I am here testing a theory that the name Piper's Chair refers to the armchair-shaped block of stone west of the large outcrop. The 'chair' supports your back and is a comfortable seat. It even has a (undoubtedly carved) stone pillow and is a tremendous viewpoint on a fine day NZ0581 : Piper's Chair & The Punch Bowl above Shaftoe Crags
Behind, on the prominent block often now referred to as the Piper's Chair, which projects out from the top of Shaftoe Crags, is the carved round bowl given the name of Devil's Punchbowl. Its story is told here NZ0581 : Devil's Punchbowl at Shaftoe Crags
An excellent photo on this site taken in 1999 has the correct name NZ0581 : Shaftoe Crags
The farm of Ferney Chesters can be seen in the distance.
A big thankyou to Peter, who I met up here having his (hot) lunch, for taking the photo.
