Bank House, 11 St James Street, Castle Hedingham
Bank House, 11 St James Street, Castle Hedingham
Timber framed Grade II Listed house of 16th century or earlier origins with 18th century fašade. The artist Eric Ravilious moved into Bank House in September 1934 and moved out to Shalford in April 1941. Essex County Council's blue plaque states 'Eric Ravilious artist and designer lived here 1903 - 1942' confusingly suggesting he lived here the whole of his life. The house was bought at some stage by the Baines family for use as an isolation unit when two of the children contracted typhoid.
