The building of the eight-storey Manchester Town Hall Extension between St Peter's Square (West Mosley Street) and Lloyd Street was completed in 1938 having been started in 1934, immediately after the completion of the Central Reference Library in St Peter's Square. Its eclectic style was designed to be a link between the ornate Gothic Revival Manchester Town Hall and the Classical architecture of the Central Library.
