TM4349 : Old airfield, Orford Ness

taken 7 years ago, near to Orford, Suffolk, Great Britain

Old airfield, Orford Ness
Old airfield, Orford Ness
The airfield was developed following purchase of the land by the War Department in 1913. The land was then farmed for arable crops. When the National Trust took over in 1993, a policy of natural regeneration was adopted, with management of water levels and grazing. This has created a marshland which attracts birds and other wildlife.
