Nick Clegg has just been making a big issue of the so called "pacer trains" common in the north of England, calling them "cattle trucks in wheels" (don't cattle trucks normally have wheels?). These are reminiscent of the modest rolling stock bumbling along what is left of the lines in my NE Lincs area: it always comes as a bit of a shock to the system to find these fast-moving "proper trains" in the west of the county.
