Thomas Bell, the son and grandson of Vicars of Kingerby, went to London around 1600 to train as an apothecary. He prospered and lived to a good age. His will left provision for 6 almshouses for local people. He endowed these with four tenements by St. Paul's Cathedral (now gone). He also presented silver to the church, which can be seen in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
