Dumbarton Castle: White Tower Crag from the Beak
The rocky area in the foreground is on Dumbarton Rock's eastern peak, which is called the Beak. A deep cleft divides it from the western peak, which is called White Tower Crag (NS3974 : Dumbarton Castle: White Tower Crag), where a trig point and flag pole are located.

The River Clyde makes up much of the background. Visible on the right are parts of Levengrove Park, Posties Park, and Sandpoint.

The rocky area from which the picture was taken can be seen on the right in a picture of NS4074 : Dumbarton Castle: Magazine and eastern wall.

The Rock is a volcanic plug, and it has a long history as a fortified site. For further information, see the Geograph article "Dumbarton Rock and Castle": Link
