View southward from the A49 Wigan Road bridge. Far below in the deep cutting Stanier Class 5 4-6-0 No. 45421 (built 10/37, withdrawn 2/68) runs the 16.28 Wigan North Western - Blackpool North. Boar's Head station had been behind the camera, but had been closed since 1/1/49. The junction had been for the Lancashire Union line to Chorley and Blackburn, which closed 4/1/60 to passengers, to goods 25/5/71.
